The Symposium brings together cruise industry leaders from Canada and New England and promotes the region as an international cruise destination. European industry leaders also are expected to attend, reflecting the importance of transatlantic planning and partnerships within the cruise industry.
Attendees include delegates from cruise lines, port authorities, terminal operators and directors, media, tour operators, tourism offices, marine agencies, airports, chambers of commerce and cruise associations.
It should be the largest Symposium to date, with more than 300 attendees expected, and will be hosted by NYCruise, Ports America and InterCruises.
New York City is scheduled to host the Symposium every four years, with the other three years rotating among the members of the Canada New England region. This group includes members from Atlantic Canada, the St. Lawrence River, Maine, Boston and New York City. Attendees hail from a variety of U.S. states and Canadian cities.
The Symposium also plans to feature a trade show for travel agents – a new feature added to benefit attendees.
“Hosting the Canada New England Symposium means a lot to the City of New York and our role in the cruise industry,” said Tom Spina, director of cruise operations for NYCruise. “By working together, we are increasing the exposure and cruise traffic of our region, resulting in economic benefits to all destinations involved. New York City is honoured to host the Symposium and to build upon the growth that the City of New York is having with international and transatlantic cruise passenger traffic.”
NYCruise is also proud to sponsor and participate in the Canada New England Cruise Symposiums in Saguenay in 2009 and in Saint John in 2010. |
