Berni Wood Leaving Atlantic Canada Cruise Association

December 1, 2010

Berni Wood, who has served in the role of Marketing Manager for the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) since 2005 (through her company, Berni Wood & Associates), has informed the Board that she will not be seeking a renewal of her contract which expires in December.

Chair, Betty MacMillan said, “The cruise portfolio has been a primary focus for Berni Wood & Associates over the past number of years, however, it is the intention of Ms. Wood to dedicate more time to expanding her business and other client interests in the future. There is little doubt that Berni has been an invaluable asset to the ACCA team. Her desire, dedication and determination to succeed at the regional, national and international levels have brought the Association to great heights during her tenure.  She has done an outstanding job in her leadership role and she will be missed.”

“Some of the most rewarding accomplishments in my career have been forged during my time with the ACCA. I owe a debt of gratitude to the ACCA Board of Directors and cruise industry stakeholders, for the opportunity to grow professionally and personally during my time with the organization”, said Wood. “Although the ACCA cruise portfolio will no longer be the predominant focal point for Berni Wood & Associates, the company plans to continue providing consulting services to the tourism industry, including port and cruise industry stakeholders.”

During her near six-year term with the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association, Wood has accomplished many goals and has initiated several programs and projects aimed at growing and moving the Atlantic Canada cruise industry into the future. This year, Atlantic Canada boasted over 805,000 passengers and crew visiting between April and November. While other markets experienced a slower cruise season, Atlantic Canada saw an increase in direct spending, which is encouraging despite difficult market conditions. With cruise line spending added in, the ACCA reports that the total economic impact generated in the region was $89 million in direct expenditures.

The Association has completed a search and will be making an announcement in the coming days with regard to a new Marketing Program Manager.
